Join the Institute for Policy and Social Research for our October 2026 research luncheon! Lunch will be provided. Please email ipsr@ku.edu if you would like to attend. Let us know if you require any accommodations or have any dietary restrictions. Unlocking Real Estate Data for Climate and Built-Environment Research Yoonjung Ahn, assistant professor, Geography Real estate data can reveal far more than property values. In this talk, I will highlight a series of studies that use property records to uncover patterns of climate adaptation and long-term changes in the built environment. I will discuss the development of U.S. air-conditioning prevalence datasets to understand heat vulnerability, as well as historical settlement datasets reconstructed from real estate records. Together, these projects demonstrate how unconventional data sources can open new avenues for studying climate, the environment, and society. IPSR is a research center supporting social scientists who focus on social problems and policy-relevant questions. Our monthly research luncheons provide a space for affiliated faculty and staff researchers to share their own ongoing work with the KU community.
